BitMEX appoints Ivo Sauter to lead spot, structured products, and OTC trading

The appointment of Ivo is an exciting milestone in the development of BitMEX Link and the presence of the BitMEX brand in Switzerland.

BitMEX has appointed Ivo Sauter as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of its 24/7 crypto brokerage featuring spot, structured products, and OTC trading, operating under the entity BitMEX Link.

Based in Switzerland, home to BitMEX Link’s offices in Zug and Zurich, Ivo Sauter will have a significant role in the roll-out of the company’s spot branch which will go live in Q2 along with a native token called BMEX.

Ivo Sauter joins BitMEX Link from Gazprombank, where he was Chief Digital, Transformation, and Strategy Officer for over a year. His more than two decades of experience in leadership roles at banks and fund management companies will prove invaluable for BitMEX as the company launches a number of business segments: Spot, Brokerage, Custody, Information Products, and Academy.

His crypto expertise was gained during his time at SIX Digital Exchange, where he was Chief Client Officer and helped the firm consolidate its position as the first financial market infrastructure in the world to offer fully integrated end-to-end trading, settlement, and custody of digital assets.

Rupertus Rothenhaeuser joined as Chief Commercial Officer (CCO)

Last week, BitMEX announced the appointment of Rupertus Rothenhaeuser as its new Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) to spearhead the crypto exchange’s ‘Beyond Derivatives’ strategy, the firm’s plan to expand into spot, brokerage, custody, information products, and establish the BitMEX Academy.

Rupertus Rothenhaeuser will be in charge of developing the exchange’s global client relationships, overseeing the commercial success of its expanding range of products, and growing BitMEX’s market share in the hyper-competitive crypto space.

A former CEO at Crypto Finance (Brokerage) AG for over a year, he championed innovative digital asset services for the group’s banking clients during that period.

His past experience includes leadership positions at ABN AMRO Bank, BNP Paribas, Macquarie Group, SIX Digital Exchange, and Boerse Stuttgart.

Rothenhaeuser started his new role on 1 January and will be based in Asia, reporting directly to BitMEX’s Chief Executive Officer Alexander Höptner.
