CoinShares launches hedge fund division available to US investors

Leading European asset manager CoinShares is introducing its hedge fund division, CoinShares Hedge Fund Solutions, making its offerings available to qualified U.S. investors, aiming to become a premier destination for institutions in the digital asset space.

CoinShares has unveiled the launch of its hedge fund division, CoinShares Hedge Fund Solutions. This strategic move signifies CoinShares’ expansion beyond its established European base and marks a significant step towards becoming a go-to destination for institutional investors interested in digital assets.

The company plans to offer an array of private investment products catering to the unique needs of each institution, from beta to alpha strategies and hybrids in between, facilitating the creation of diversified and optimized crypto portfolios.

CoinShares’ journey into the hedge fund division is a homecoming of sorts. The company initially began as the commodity hedge fund Global Advisors and later founded the regulated Global Advisors Bitcoin Investment Fund (GABI) in 2014, which operated until 2017.

This move back to its roots reflects CoinShares’ strategic positioning, leveraging the extensive expertise it has gained through its active involvement in crypto markets, including its proprietary trading arm, since 2016.

CoinShares is poised to deliver premium products designed to meet the due diligence requirements of institutional investors, aligning with the offerings of traditional financial institutions.

CoinShares hires Lewis Fellas to lead Hedge Fund Solutions

To ensure the seamless establishment of this new division, CoinShares has appointed Lewis Fellas as the Head of CoinShares Hedge Fund Solutions. Fellas brings 23 years of industry experience, including seven in digital assets, to the table. His unique skill set and expertise will play a pivotal role in the division’s success, which will harness CoinShares’ battle-tested proficiency, trading capabilities, and quantitative teams.

Jean-Marie Mognetti, CEO of CoinShares, emphasized the strategic nature of this expansion. He highlighted the changing macro environment marked by factors like interest rates and inflation, making actively managed exposure to digital assets a natural progression. Mognetti stated, “Our products focus on delivering a premium experience to our investors, and we are delighted to enrich our long-only asset management offerings by returning to our core founding program.”

Lewis Fellas, Head of Hedge Fund Solutions at CoinShares, echoed the sentiment, emphasizing that the division’s strategies reflect deep practical knowledge of digital assets and the firm’s ability to develop new products that meet the demands of institutional investors. Fellas sees the resurgence of interest rate-driven volatility as an opportunity that CoinShares intends to seize with its innovative fund products, offering risk mitigation and clear asset class and strategy exposures.

CoinShares’ entry into the hedge fund division and its accessibility to U.S. investors marks a significant step forward in the company’s evolution. With its strong background in digital assets and a dedicated team, CoinShares aims to become a key player in offering premium investment solutions to institutional clients, positioning itself as a pioneer in the ever-evolving digital asset landscape.
