Equiti lures Husam Al Kurdi to lead Cypriot operations

FX industry veteran Husam Al Kurdi has landed at Equiti Group as managing director of its Cypriot operations, according to information made public on his LinkedIn profile.

The new venture comes less than a year after Al Kurdi parted ways with SquaredFinancial, ending a three-year tenure to focus on his own new venture. He joined the firm back in 2020, replacing Youssef Barakat, who had been with the broker since 2009.

Al Kurdi assumed his position as CEO of the CySEC-regulated entity and Deputy CEO of SquaredFinancial Group based out of Limassol. He has more than 20 years of experience, having spent the bulk of his career at many FX brokers.

Earlier in his career, Al Kurdi served as Head of Product Management and Business Transformation at ADSS, heavyweight brokerage based in Abu Dhabi. He joined ADSS in 2011 as an E-trading project manager and steadily rose through several senior roles over seven years, ultimately becoming the deputy head of operations. In this role, he managed various trading and operational systems, worked closely with the head of operations, and helped roll out ADSS’s proprietary multi-asset trading platform, OREX.

Before his time at ADSS, Al Kurdi spent five years as the E-Trading System Manager at MIG Bank from 2007 to 2011, following two years at MIG Investment as a Senior E-Trading Support.

Hiring Husam Al Kurdi is a strategic move to boost sales and expand Equiti’s operations as it grows its market share. With his extensive experience in managing multi-asset trading platforms, banking systems, and other financial applications, Husam will be key in helping the broker develop its investment services portfolio.

Earlier in 2022, Equiti Securities Currencies Brokers Ltd, a subsidiary of Equiti Group, becoming one of the first international brokerage firms to offer OTC margin trading in the UAE. Under the regulatory purview of the Securities and Commodities Authority, Equiti subsidiary’s licence covers spot trades on equity, commodities, FX, and other financial instruments.
