eToro launches stocks and ETFs in the United States as crypto investors diversify

“Of the 2,000 U.S. crypto investors surveyed, 35% have been investing for less than a year, 50% have been investing for one to three years, and 56% indicated that investing in crypto made them more likely to consider investing in stocks in the future”.

eToro has included stocks and exchange traded funds (ETFs), in addition to cryptoassets, to its trading offering in the United States, effectively broadening the product range in its quest to become a favorite broker in the world’s largest trading market.

Lule Demmissie, Chief Executive Officer at eToro’s US operation, commented: “For many new investors, crypto investing is a gateway to investing in stocks – and with broader access to financial education and fewer barriers to entry for first-time investors, we expect this trend to continue.

“As we continue to expand our offering in one of the world’s most important financial markets, we look forward to empowering U.S. users to expand their investing journey on the eToro platform and interact with our social community in new ways.”

Crypto trading begets stock trading

The broader offering for US users means that clients may now combine their crypto and stock investments in a single portfolio, invest in fractional stocks for as little as $10, with zero commission, view detailed price charts and analyses, and engage with experienced Popular Investors on investment strategies and market moves.

The announcement comes at a time when crypto assets are becoming a way in for many first-time U.S. investors who later expand their portfolio with different asset classes, at least according to a few surveys including a recent one from eToro with U.S. consumers, which found novice investors who start with crypto are more likely to diversify their investments over time.

“Of the 2,000 U.S. crypto investors surveyed, 35% have been investing for less than a year, 50% have been investing for one to three years, and 56% indicated that investing in crypto made them more likely to consider investing in stocks in the future”.

eToro USA Securities is registered with the SEC, FINRA, and SIPC

U.S. retail investors trading through eToro’s trading platform are able to manage a portfolio of diversified investments that include traditional assets and cryptoassets side-by-side in a single, easy-to-use mobile app or desktop interface.

Securities trading is offered via eToro USA Securities, Inc., a broker dealer registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and member of the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) and Securities Investor Protection Corporation (SIPC).

Crypto Trading is offered via eToro USA LLC, which is not a registered broker-dealer or FINRA member and cryptocurrency holdings are not FDIC or SIPC insured.

FIA urges CFTC to regulate use cases rather than AI itself

“We urge the CFTC to refrain from crafting new regulations that generally regulate AI because this approach presents certain well-known pitfalls. By approaching the issue from the perspective of AI as a technology, rather than the use case for the technology, corresponding regulations would likely necessitate a definition of AI. We anticipate that any attempt to properly define AI would be very challenging and require considerable resources.”
