After more than a year in Beta, Z.com Cloud Blockchain launches officially, allowing businesses to build DApps.

Japanese online services expert GMO Internet Inc. (TYO:9449) has taken its next step into the world of blockchain technologies by officially launching Z.com Cloud Blockchain. The service has been in Beta since December 2016 and now has grown up and sees its live launch.

Z.com Cloud Block Chain is a PaaS type blockchain platform that allows building distributed applications (Decentralized Apps: DApps) on blockchains using Ethereum. One example of such an app is the Z.com Cloud Blockchain based Home Delivery Box, which has already been developed.

Let’s recall that in July 2017, GMO Internet launched GMO Blockchain Open Source Software Project, an open-source project enabling real service deployments.

In the end of October 2017, the project entered its sixth phase, focusing on payments. A fortnight before that, the GMO Blockchain OSS project entered its fifth phase via the launch of open source KYC, in a move seen to minimize human and financial costs of identity verification through the use of the blockchain. GMO Blockchain OSS said back then it was preparing for the development of smartphone application for certification body and demonstration experiments in collaboration with GMO GlobalSign to put this mechanism into practical use.

The preceding phases of GMO Blockchain OSS have seen the rollout of services such as the new Region Token, a program whereby municipalities and companies can issue their own tokens (points).

In the meantime, GMO Internet marks progress with regard to its Bitcoin mining business. GMO is now developing 7 nm process technologies for chips to be used in the mining process. As the first step of the research and development which is done jointly with GMO’s European partner, the companies have succeeded in developing a new 12 nm FFC process based mining chip. This is seen as a milestone as the companies are closer to realizing a 7 nm process technology for chips to be used in the mining process.

Cutting-edge 7 nm process technology for chips will be used in the mining process, and GMO Internet will continue to work on research and development, using the next-generation mining boards in the mining process in the first half of 2018.
