Kian Hoe Tan joins HKEX from Standard Chartered Bank.
Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX) has appointed Kian Hoe Tan as Managing Director and Head of Treasury.
He will be driving HKEX’s Treasury strategy, overseeing the performance of the group’s investment activities for both internally and externally managed investment portfolios.
Working closely with colleagues from across the Finance and Risk teams, and with other HKEX entities, the new Treasurer will be in charge of balancing a robust governance and control framework with optimizing investment returns.
Role in supporting HKEX’s long-term sustainable growth
Kian Hoe Tan joins HKEX on 4 July 2022 and will report to HKEX Group Chief Financial Officer, Vanessa Lau.
HKEX Group Chief Financial Officer, Vanessa Lau, said: “We are pleased to welcome Kian Hoe to HKEX and to the Finance team. Kian Hoe brings with him over two decades of treasury experience and has an excellent track record in running significant regional treasury functions. He will play an important role in supporting the long-term sustainable growth and success of our business.”
Kian Hoe Tan joins HKEX from Standard Chartered Bank, where he was Managing Director and Head of Treasury Markets for Greater China and North Asia for the last five years.
Other roles at Standard Chartered Bank include Regional Head of Asset Liability Management, Greater China and North Asia, as well as Head of Asset Liability Management for Standard Chartered Hong Kong.
VaR Platform for post-trade clients
HKEX has recently launched its new VaR Platform for post-trade clients, which will introduce margin requirements based on individual stock volatility, instead of the previously applied flat margin rate across all securities.
The VAR platform is expected to strengthen the resilience of the securities clearing house, in line with evolving international regulatory standards as well as promote enhanced transparency and cost-efficiency for HKEX market participants.
All Clearing Participants for securities transactions in HKEX’s markets will have the VaR Platform available to them, including its new margin and stress testing models for the calculation of margins and the Default Fund.
Its enhanced margining model strengthens HKEX’s resilience and boosts capital efficiency, supporting the exchange’s clearing participants through margin savings on diversified portfolios.
