IG Group veteran Will Hedden leaves LCG after less than one year, takes senior position at MoneyFarm

After seven years at IG Group in London and Singapore, Will Hedden spent a brief period at LCG before being placed, along with a third of the firm’s payroll, on gardening leave until July 2016. He has now joined British online investment firm MoneyFarm in a managerial position

London-Square-Mile

For Will Hedden, a managerial position at British online investment firm MoneyFarm has become the latest move in his career, forging his upward path toward seniority at a relatively youthful age, and signaling his move away from the traditional FX and CFD firms and into the intrinsically British ISA and investment platform sector.

MoneyFarm can claim relative alignment with its larger domestic peers which include Hargreaves Lansdown and Interactive Investor (ii), both of which are large firms that specialize in British ISA, SIPP and retail investment products via their own proprietary platforms.

Mr. Hedden joins MoneyFarm from LCG, formerly known as London Capital Group, a firm which he joined in February 2015 as a Senior Sales Trader in the firm’s Partnership Operations division.

In July 2016, Mr. Hedden completed his gardening leave from LCG, having been placed on gardening leave in April this year along with several other key LCG employees as part of the firm’s notorious revolving door approach to maintaining industry talent within its operations.

At that time, 20 staff left the firm in one go, representing one third of the company’s entire payroll.

Some examples of the level of seniority of some of the executives that left LCG at the same time as Mr. Hedden and a further 20 non-executive members of staff include Legal Counsel Kate Valdar, along with Head of Trading Victoria Webb, ICAP veteran of 28 years Peter Wells, who left LCG after just a year and a half with the firm, and Nicola Penn, Executive Assistant to the Directors, Chinese market specialist Naomi Ewart-Simcock who is now at AFX Capital, and Bianca Fischer, Head of German Sales & Trading is one example. Ms Fischer joined LCG in the summer of 2015 from IronFX Global’s London office.

Before joining LCG, Mr Hedden had a long and successful tenure at IG Group, having joined the firm in September 2008 from UniCredit where he was an Accounts Assistant.

Mr. Hedden’s initial role at IG Group was as a Sales Trader at the firm’s IG Index division, where he spent two year in the front office role before being promoted to the position of Sales Trader within the Premium Client Management Team at the firm’s IG Markets division in August 2011.

In April 2013, Mr. Hedden moved to Singapore, where he was a Senior Sales Trader within IG Group’s IG Asia operations, returing to London six months later to become Premium Client Manager at IG Group’s head office until leaving the firm in February 2015 to join LCG.

Educated at the University of East Anglia, Mr. Hedden holds a First Class BSC Honors degree in Mathematics with Statistics, from which he graduated in 2007.
