Interactive Brokers enables traders to access their account data via Alexa

Maria Nikolova

Traders can do this by linking their production account in the skills section of the Alexa app.

Several months after online trading major Interactive Brokers Group, Inc. (IEX:IBKR) introduced the “IBKR IBot Skill” for Amazon Alexa, the broker continues to expand the functionalities of this solution.

The IBKR IBot Skill for Amazon Alexa leverages the power of natural-language interface IBot, to allow traders to access content quickly and securely from any Alexa-enabled device, like the Amazon Echo, Echo Dot, Fire TV, and Fire TV stick.

Enabling the skill can happen via the simple voice command: “Alexa, open IBKR.” Once enabled, traders can ask Alexa for the latest market updates, real-time quotes, general IBKR information and “how-to” instructions. For instance, one may ask:

  • “Alexa, get the latest market update,” or
  • “Alexa, what’s the price of Apple?” or
  • “Alexa, how do I open a cash account at IB?”

Now, the skill is improved further for those who already have an IBKR account. They can access their account data via Alexa. This can be done by linking their production account in the skills section of the Alexa app by signing in with one’s IBKR username and password. Once their account is linked, they can ask:

  • “Alexa, what is my P&L?” or
  • “Alexa, what’s my position in apple?” or
  • “Alexa, how much do I have to spend?”

Alexa responds with clear, easy-to-understand answers directly from IBot.

Interactive Brokers notes that keeping account information secure is a top priority for the company. That is why, the broker keeps one’s login credentials completely private and never shares this information with Amazon. The company also limits IBot operations, including account access via Alexa, to read-only.

The broker plans to soon allow traders to link their paper accounts to Alexa.

Let’s note that traders can access IBot from almost anywhere, including from the IBKR Chat, the Client Services Message Center in Account Management and the Client Services page of the Interactive Brokers’ website, as well as from within IBKR Mobile apps, TWS for Desktop and the Client Portal.
