Capital.com has announced the promotion of Kypros Zoumidou as its Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Zoumidou, who previously served as the UK Managing Director and Group Chief Commercial Officer, will be succeeding Peter Hetherington.

Zoumidou’s promotion will take effect from 16 October 2023. While Hetherington steps down from his role as CEO, he will continue to work closely with the firm in an advisory capacity until 2026, ensuring a seamless transition and imparting strategic insights.

Highlighting this leadership change, the company’s press release stated that this move comes at a time when Capital.com is focusing on its next phase of growth and strategic endeavors. It added that over the past year and a half, Zoumidou has been collaboratively working alongside Hetherington, gearing up to lead the company into its forthcoming growth trajectory.

Kypros Zoumidou originally joined Capital.com in February 2022 following a 12-year tenure with the UK-listed broker, IG Group. There, he held multiple positions, including serving on the Enterprise Leadership Team and being a board member for three IG subsidiary companies.

His roles at IG spanned from Head of Compliance for the UK and Europe to Senior Executive Officer in Dubai. Zoumidou also held titles as Global Head of Client Acquisition and Chief Executive Officer of BrightPool, IG’s market maker. Before his departure, he functioned as the Commercial Director, International, with responsibilities for over 150 countries across various regions, his Linkedin profile shows.

Before joining IG Group, Zoumidou had been associated with E*Trade as the Head of Compliance, overseeing its retail and institutional segments in the UK and Europe. He briefly worked with inter-dealer broker Mint Securities in 2008 before joining IG Group in 2010.

Commenting on the move, Capital.com founder Victor Prokopenya said:  “On behalf of the entire Board, I would like to thank Peter, whose transformational leadership has been the driving force behind Capital.com. Guided by his vision and the execution of his strategic roadmap, he has rapidly led Capital.com to its next stage of growth and laid a solid foundation for his successor to build on.”

Kypros Zoumidou, the incoming CEO, added: “I am very pleased to step up to  the role of Group CEO of Capital.com. Having worked alongside Peter for over a decade, most recently at Capital.com, we were able to align our goals and mission quickly. I aim to build on Peter’s success and bring further growth to the solid base we have built. I look forward to working closely with our talented global team who will help me drive our business forward.”

The outgoing CEO Peter Hetherington noted: “Having successfully implemented robust processes, procedures and improved the Group’s operational performance, Capital.com is well placed for future growth. I have full confidence in Kyp’s ability to lead the team and drive future growth.”
