FP Markets swings into action with series of Trading vs Golf webinars

Maria Nikolova

New education series explores learnings from psychology of high-performance golf helping traders improve their trading performance.

Ahead of the 147th Open Golf Championship taking place in Carnoustie, Scotland from the 19th to the 22nd of July 2018, FP Markets, a market-leading and well-established global CFD and Forex provider, announces its innovative education series analysing the parallels between golf and trading and how learnings can be transferred from the world of golf to improve the performance of traders.

To complement its already impressive education offering, this exclusive series of articles and webinars focuses on key topics which provide traders with insights into key development areas in order to improve their own trading performance.

The focus of the series of articles will be on a number of skill development areas which are common between golf and trading including:

  • Risk reward skills and how disproportionately these skills are rewarded;
  • Managing the Moment – learning to thrive when it matters most;
  • Learning to think clearly under pressure – T-CUP;
  • Learning to regulate and temper our emotional responses;
  • Resilience in the face of setbacks;
  • Developing an optimistic problem-solving mindset;
  • The ability to self-evaluate effectively;
  • Developing an effective support structure which allows high performance;
  • Learning to plan to effectively – short, medium and long-term and
  • Valuing education and the quest for excellence.

The weekly episodes are scheduled to take place based around each major golfing tournament for the remainder of 2018 with the next series starting on 25th July and focusing on ‘Managing Change and Dealing with Adversity’, mirroring the challenges faced at the Open Golf Championship.

With over 13 years’ experience in the industry, FP Markets recognizes that many of the skills employed in professional golf are applicable to traders as this high-profile sport requires character attributes which run far deeper than pure athletic performance. Both traders and players are operating in highly pressurized environments within a highly competitive and strategic backdrop where the margins between success and failure are very small.

Craig Allison, Head of Global Development at FP Markets commented,

“Our clients are at the forefront of our business and for that reason, we wanted to create content that would not only engage them but also enable them to enhance their trading performance. We have identified that golf and trading have many similarities as both take place in challenging and constantly changing environments. Management of your emotions, a positive temperament and the ability to make clear and strategic decisions separate the best golfers and traders from the pack. We hope that this unique series of webinars will impart fresh knowledge and new techniques in a novel and relevant manner to our clients and this bespoke online content is readily available for them.”

This launch follows FP Markets’ announcement in March 2018 of its groundbreaking sponsorship of ASM Academy, Africa’s most progressive Golf Academy. This sponsorship coincides with the company’s global expansion and recognition of the platform of golf as an opportunity to deliver its brand messages to a key audience. FP Markets’ support has already enabled local golfer, Franklin Manchest, to follow his dream and make the transition of amateur player to professional golfer.
