StoneX Group has appointed Dr. Dhamu R. Thamodaran, a retired Executive Vice President, Chief Strategy Officer & Chief Commodity Hedging Officer, to its Board of Directors.

The global brokerage and financial services firm providing execution, risk management and advisory services, market intelligence and clearing services across multiple asset classes and markets announced the appointment a few months after reporting the “strongest core operating performance” in its history.

Dr. Thamodaran retired from the role at Smithfield Foods, Inc. in December 2020 after nearly five years. He first joined the firm in 1995 as Director of Price Risk Management after prior food industry roles at John Morrell Food Group and Farmland Foods, which later became part of the Smithfield Foods family.

He led strategy development for the firm’s vertically integrated business, managed its commodity hedging activities, and oversaw its global economics commodities research and analysis group.

His knowledge of global macroeconomics, agricultural markets, and the pork value chain made him a key figure within the industry, a frequent speaker before boards of food and agriculture companies and industry trade association events.

Sean O’Connor, Chief Executive Officer of StoneX, said: “Dhamu brings a vast portfolio of experience gained from one of our largest and longest-standing clients, providing a deep understanding of StoneX, our culture and client-first approach, as well as the value we provide to all our clients.”

John Radziwill, Chairman of the Board of StoneX, commented: “We are extremely pleased to welcome Dhamu to the StoneX board. His experience and expertise in commodity risk management and global supply chains, as well as global macro economics will provide valuable expertise and insight and strengthen the board oversight and leadership.”

StoneX Group connects companies, organizations, traders and investors to the global market ecosystem through digital platforms, end-to-end clearing and execution services, high touch service and deep expertise.

The company has recently enhanced its self-service OTC Platforms for commodities trading thus providing a single, digitized offering from which to fully access, manage and execute futures and options trading (via the affiliated FCM, StoneX Financial Inc.) as well as access to OTC markets (via StoneX Markets LLC as a counterparty).

Clients can now receive market intelligence, risk measurement, scenario analysis, and market execution all in one place.

StoneX Markets’ self-service OTC Platform has been designed to provide direct access to its OTC markets, often considered opaque and complicated to novice investors, so that it can be leveraged by all users of commodity options products.
