TD Ameritrade revitalizes its Amazon Alexa skill

Clients get to learn about the markets and place trades on Alexa-enabled devices through voice commands.

Amazon’s Alexa is making further strides into the world of online trading. TD Ameritrade, Inc., a broker-dealer subsidiary of TD Ameritrade Holding Corp. (NASDAQ:AMTD), has revitalized its Amazon Alexa skill, empowering its clients to learn about the markets and place trades on Alexa-enabled devices through voice commands.

Clients must visit the Alexa App and enable the “TD Ameritrade skill” to set up a voice code for trading capabilities. Once enabled, clients can say, “Alexa, open TD Ameritrade” to get started. By asking Alexa, clients can also quickly get answers to market questions, check account balances and history, and get ongoing market updates customized and curated from the TD Ameritrade Network.

TD Ameritrade explains that technology is impacting consumer behavior and consumers are bringing these expectations to companies like TD Ameritrade in finance and investing.

Sunayna Tuteja, head of strategic partnerships and emerging technologies at TD Ameritrade, comments:

“Combining technologies like artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning and voice user interface (VUI), we continue to find new ways to make personal finance and investing simpler for people.”

Online trading companies have been increasingly showing affinity for digital assistants. Earlier this year, for instance, Interactive Brokers Group, Inc. (IBKR) introduced the “IBKR IBot Skill” for Amazon Alexa, which lets traders access Interactive Brokers’ content and data from any Alexa-enabled device, including the Echo, Dot, and Fire TV.

Alexa can install this skill for a trader through a simple voice command: “Alexa, open IBKR.” Once initiated, traders can ask Alexa for the latest market updates (which she is set to provide courtesy of briefing.com), real-time quotes, volume, and other market data, and general information pertaining to Interactive Brokers.
