TradeStation mobile app turns focus to new users

TradeStation adds preview mode to its application for iOS gadgets, targeting users without a TradeStation account.

TradeStation Group, which operates in the US as TradeStation Securities, Inc., has not attracted much media attention over the past several months.

This is partially because it sold its TradeStation Forex (aka IBFX Inc) subsidiary to OANDA Corporation in February last year. Furthermore, just a couple of weeks after the OTC FX accounts transfer, the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) ordered IBFX to pay a $1 million penalty for failing to meet minimum capital requirements, failing to timely report minimum net capital violations, supervisory failures, and violating a prior CFTC Order. To many, these events signified that TradeStation is out of the picture. Which is not the case…

TradeStation Group, a subsidiary of Japanese online trading services provider Monex Group, Inc.(TYO:8698), is offering its clients trading in a raft of securities, including stocks, futures, and options. Moreover, the Japanese market is a key one for TradeStation – in August last year, Monex launched a new version of the TradeStation platform, including a new Japanese stocks trading tool, for its active clients.

In the meantime, TradeStation has been regularly updating its mobile applications – since June 2016, the company has been releasing updates to its iOS app once a month on average. This is a decent rate for an online trading company. Some of the biggest online trading companies update their mobile apps once per six months, with the update description containing the disheartening message “Bug fixes”.

This is not the case with TradeStation, with the latest update (version 3.5) to the TradeStation mobile app for iOS devices showing a focus on potential customers, that is, those who’d like to use the app but do not have an account with the broker.

The company has added a preview mode of the app for users without a TradeStation account. The Preview mode enables users to create custom quotes lists, analyze charts with indicators, drawing objects, etc., and monitor their favorite symbols with delayed data.

Another interesting addition will be appreciated by delayed data subscribers who can now place trades from within the mobile app.

The application is available in English and Japanese.

The solid technological foundation of TradeStation solutions was underlined by Franco Dimuccio, one of the original Tradestation developers, who has provided details on the platform to FinanceFeeds’ readers.
