Global X, a New York-based provider of exchange-traded funds, is pursuing a European expansion after it has received approval from the SIX Swiss Exchange to list ETPs in Switzerland.

With the Bitcoin and Ethereum ETP listing by Global X, a total of 168 ETPs with cryptocurrencies as underlyings are offered for trading at SIX Swiss Exchange.

With its strong track record starting in the US, Global X is joining the SIX’s issuer ranks and further expanding the product range to focus on growing its footprint. This brings the total number of crypto issuers to 14. With 18 different cryptocurrencies as underlying assets, SIX currently offers investors access to 208 products, the largest choice of any regulated exchange.

Today’s announcement builds on Global X’s ongoing international expansion and positions it as a pioneer in crypto asset management. In 2021, the company launched the Global X Blockchain & Bitcoin Strategy ETF, which seeks long-term growth potential by combining management of bitcoin futures positions with exposure to disruptive companies on the blockchain technology and digital assets theme.

The actively managed fund has nearly $60 million in assets and is among the first ETFs designed to provide long-term investors with access to both bitcoin futures as well as companies positioned to potentially benefit from advances in blockchain technology.

The New York-based fund group has 93 ETFs trading in the US with combined assets of roughly $40 billion. These offerings are provided in partnership with top international custodians, auditors, and other partners to ensure security and safety for institutional investors.

Christian Reuss, Head SIX Swiss Exchange, comments: “A warm welcome to Global X Digital Assets Issuer Limited. Their newly listed ETPs have Bitcoin and Ethereum as underlyings which represent the most liquid cryptocurrencies. And with this listing we are proud being the partner of choice when it comes to listing and trading of attractive and innovative investment products.”

After a record year in 2021 for products with cryptocurrencies as an underlying on the SIX Swiss Exchange, trading turnover has reached CHF 1.9 billion in the year to date. The number of transactions has reached a total of 127,133 in crypto products.
