XTB launches fractional shares offering in the UK

Rick Steves

“The roll-out of Fractional Shares has made capital markets even more accessible for UK investors. Having observed the positive reception to our Fractional Shares in other European regions, we’re confident that this addition fortifies our competitive stance in the UK, positioning XTB as a go-to destination for a diverse range of investors.”

In a move to further democratize stock market investing, global fintech firm XTB is introducing its Fractional Shares offering to the UK market. The decision comes amid the global financial market seeing a significant surge in new retail investors, particularly during the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

With a modest minimum transaction value of €10, investors can now buy Fractional Shares, giving them fiduciary rights to a segment of an individual share or ETF listed on regulated markets. This eliminates the necessity to buy an entire share and grants the investor a proportional share of financial benefits, including dividends. Furthermore, investing in Fractional Shares with XTB comes with a 0% commission for a monthly turnover of up to 100,000 EUR.

XTB’s fractional shares already in Poland, Spain, Portugal, Czechia, Slovakia, and Romania

XTB’s Fractional Shares offering has already been introduced in several European markets, including Poland, Spain, Portugal, Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Romania.

Historically, retail investors faced obstacles in entering the stock market, especially concerning the capital required to create a diversified investment portfolio.

Stocks of major companies like Mastercard, Microsoft, Meta Platforms, and Apple, which have been traditionally appealing to investors, were out of reach for many due to their high prices. XTB’s Fractional Shares offering has now made it possible for UK investors to afford over 3,000 shares from 16 leading global exchanges and 300 international ETFs.

+61% of XTB clients now invest in real stocks and ETFs

Joshua Raymond, Head of XTB UK, said: “Three key factors account for this surge in new retail investors: globalisation, the rise of digital technologies, and the desire to shield capital from challenging economic scenarios, like the pandemic and escalating inflation. XTB’s client data mirrors these patterns, with over 61% of our clients now investing in real stocks and ETFs across diverse markets.

Established in 2002 in Poland, XTB supports over 781,000 global customers in their trading pursuits. The company offers access to a vast range of financial instruments, comprehensive educational resources, and exceptional customer service.
