The Board of Directors of the IMF approved four-year financial aid for Ukraine worth at 17.5 billion USD. In less than an year this is the second attempt the Ukrainian economy to be rescued from collapse. The statement of the head of the IMF Christine Lagarde did not specify the amount of the first tranche of Kiev, nor when it will be available.
“This agreement should help economic stabilization and wide-ranging political reforms in Ukraine aimed at restoring sustainable growth in the medium term and improving the living standard of the Ukrainian people”, said Lagarde.
The Ukrainian authorities expect the first tranche of the loan is 5 billion USD. It is expected that the IMF loan to be followed by loans from other donors. The total volume of financial assistance to the country should reach 40 billion USD.
