eToro secures eight sponsorship deals in Italy’s top league

Israeli social trading and multi-asset brokerage company eToro has struck yet another sponsorship deal, this time with Italian top-flight soccer league Serie A.

The one-year contract, which runs for the coming 2021/22 season, will see eToro featured as the official partner of eight clubs. The list of sponsored football teams includes Bologna, Cagliari, Genoa, Sampdoria, Sassuolo, Spezia, Udinese, Verona, as well as an LED only deal with Salernitana.

As part of its sponsorship package, eToro will gain visibility through a range of marketing channels including matchday LED boards, media backdrops, tickets and digital rights. The Israeli trading network has also obtained access to players’ activities alongside various rights on these Serie A clubs’ social platforms.

Emanuela Manor, Italian Regional Manager at eToro comments: “eToro believes that sponsorships are a powerful tool for connecting with the communities at the very heart of a sport. With more people than ever engaging with the capital markets this year, financial education has never been so important. We will be working with the clubs to make the financial markets more accessible, bringing fans closer to the action and educating them on investing.”

eToro has been active in the Europe soccer market as they have previously signed deals with several top leagues. Most recently, the firm has signed a lucrative sponsorship deal with Arsenal Football Club.

eToro has gained advertising rights on Arsenal’s various online platforms, as well as a presence at the Emirates Stadium on a matchday through advertising on LED perimeter boards and media backdrops.

The full financial terms were not officially disclosed, but according to some industry estimates eToro is set to pay six figures a year for such a luxury. Sports partnerships stretching into $10 million are no longer a surprise and more of an expectancy at the top clubs. Arsenal already boasts the third-biggest kit deal on the football scene after it secured in 2018 a five-year deal worth $391 million with sportswear giant Adidas.

eToro already bags Premier League’s multi-club deals with Tottenham Hotspur, Crystal Palace, Leicester City and Southampton. The Israeli firm, which is gearing up for an eye-catching $10 billion IPO, is also one of European football’s biggest sponsors. Specifically, it has built a strong portfolio of top tier clubs including Bundesliga clubs RB Leipzig, FC Cologne, FC Union Berlin, VfL Wolfsburg and Eintracht Frankfurt.
