Elena spoke with FinanceFeeds Editor-in-Chief Nikolai Isayev about people management and recruitment – a topic that is not much talked about but is at the heart of any brokerage firm’s success.

Exness enjoys a legendary reputation of taking care of their own, going as far as giving away Mini Coopers for everyone. Last year, the broker gave a paid week off to employees on top of their contractualized vacation days.

If you take care of people, they will pay you back

The broker’s Chief People Officer made it clear none of that is strategy, but philosophy. All these initiatives are rooted in the belief that people are the most important element of the business.

“If we take care of people, make their life easier, they will pay you back with better performance and relations, and will stay with you”, Krutova stated, adding that cars, holidays, and other features are small pieces of the bigger picture, where the priorities are people development, well-being, and mental health.

Elena Krutova noted that the leadership at Exness never questioned this approach, so it must be bearing fruit. It is undeniable that this particular broker has become a favorite among FX and CFD professionals, regardless of the department, and the way the company treats people is certainly a good reason to join and stay with them.

Treating people as more than resources

Exness recruits talent from all over the world to build a cross cultural environment at the offices. This comes with challenges too. “We have to ensure they can successfully work together and understand one another”, she said, arguing that the firm has been successful at bringing people together – most employees are relocated – and create a new sense of belonging.

This requires an expert understanding of human behavior and psychology which can be found in the team of more than 100 staff in charge of recruitment and people management. A team that is wary of the term Human Resources (HR) because “if you treat people as resources, they will act as resources”, Elena Krutova stated, adding that treating Exness employees as people enhances their worth.

It is that acknowledgment at Exness that had Elena Krutova change her professional title from Global Head of HR to Chief People Officer, with responsibilities remaining the same.
