GMO Click prepares move to new website, as company name change gets closer

As GMO Click is poised to change its name to GMO Financial Holdings, effective October 1, 2017, the company is also changing its website address.

There is a major change coming for GMO Click Holdings Inc (TYO:7177), the parent of Japanese Forex broker GMO Click Securities. As FinanceFeeds has reported, GMO Click Holdings is about to change its name to GMO Financial Holdings.

Today, the company posted a brief update on the change, saying that it will also move to another website address – https://www.gmofh.com/. The transfer to the new website address and the change of the name are scheduled for the same day – October 1, 2017.

The company has attributed the name change to strategic reasons, in particular – the expansion of its business portfolio and that of its parent company GMO Internet Inc. (TYO:9449). Indeed, most recently, GMO has launched a grand variety of new projects in the area of finance. The most notable examples concern new technologies like blockchain. In late August, GMO Internet said its Blockchain Open Source Software Project entered its third phase, introducing a Region Token. The open source Region Token is a program whereby municipalities and companies can issue their own tokens (points).

And earlier in September, the company said the Blockchain Open Source Software project entered its fourth phase. In this phase of the project, GMO Internet has teamed up with GMO-Z.com RUNSYSTEM JSC to demonstrate the security applications of blockchain technologies. One area in which this collaboration works is deterring illegal resale of tickets and the rollout of paperless tickets that are protected via the new technology.

In another bright example of the diversification of its business operations, GMO launched a virtual currency exchange business in May this year. This business also changed its name recently – to GMO Coin. This entity is now planning to expand the lineup of crypto currencies for its clients, with the addition of five new crypto currencies scheduled to happen within 2017.

Virtual currency mining operations are also on the agenda, with the launch of the mining center scheduled for the first half of 2018.
