Orbs Ecosystem Developers Launch TON Access To The Public

FinanceFeeds Editorial Team

The TON Access service provides reliable and decentralized RPC nodes to decentralized applications (dApps).

Announced this Thursday, Orbs, a leading contributor to the TON ecosystem, is launching the public version of the TON Access service, making it available for all developers on the blockchain. The service aims to decentralize RPC nodes and provide dApps with a network that makes HTTP queries to the blockchain state from the browser. The TON Access service seeks to enable unrestricted anonymous access to information on the blockchain without an API key.

A leading developer on TON, Shahar Yakir, creator of TON Minter, stated that the current RPC nodes model needed a change, which is what TON Access aims to solve.

“Registering API keys in web3 always seemed absurd to me,” Yakir said. “Where are you supposed to store them? Client-side isn’t safe and server-side means running a centralized backend.”

The creation of the TON Access service arose from the need to move away from centralized RPC node providers such as Infura, which provides RPC nodes for Ethereum dApps. Creating a decentralized RPC service provider helps lower the risks of centralization, such as single-point-of-failure issues, which, in the past, has become a significant headache for dApps built on Ethereum.

According to the statement, using a decentralized RPC network like TON Access, dApps can avoid creating a centralized point of failure in otherwise fully decentralized projects.

“We created TON Access by learning from the failings of Ethereum. Most EVM dApps access the chain through Infura, a centralized business,” Tal Kol, TON ambassador and Orbs founder, said. “By depending on Orbs validators, we can guarantee decentralized access, similar to what pokt.network is doing on EVM.”

TON Access provides developers with easy-to-implement RPC endpoints for the dApps built on the TON ecosystem. Simply, developers must copy and paste a snippet of code into their dApp client code. Once copied and pasted, the service will be available to users of their DApp. Currently, developers have a selection of RPC nodes to select from, including TonCenter HTTP API v2, TonHub HTTP API v4, and Raw ADNL Proxy.

Despite Ton Access being in the beta phase, several popular dApps on the TON ecosystem have already adopted the service. These dApps include TON API, the leading TON blockchain explorer, TON.vote, the official TON DAO governance platform, and Megaton Finance, the largest decentralized exchange on TON by TVL.

The beta phase also recorded fabulous adoption rates, showing the need for decentralized RPCs, attracting over 100,000 unique monthly users, and making an average of 1.9 million daily requests. Developers and users who need more information on these new-age decentralized RPCs can get more information by visiting the TON Access Github README or joining the Orbs official Telegram channel.
