Refinitiv FX volume drops to $459 billion in April
Refinitiv, the former Financial and Risk business of Thomson Reuters, reported that the average daily volumes (ADV) of currency trading were $459 billion in April on the company’s main FX trading services.
Foreign exchange (FX) trading volumes were influenced by a range of factors in April, including economic and political events, market volatility, and changes in investor sentiment. One key driver of increased FX trading volumes in April was consolidated market volatility.
Foreign exchange trading volumes across Refinitiv Matching and FXall platforms were down by 3 percent from $474 billion in March 2023. The figure was also lower 1.3 percent from $464 billion in April 2022.
Spot FX volumes at Refinitiv, still partly owned by Thomson Reuters, came in at $96 billion, representing a 7.7 percent drop over the monthly interval when compared to $104 billion in March. On a yearly basis, the spot turnover failed to outpace its counterpart of April 2022, which came at $102 billion.
A weaker activity in other transaction types, including forwards, swaps, options and non-deliverable forwards (NDFs), contributed to the monthly fall. The figure averaged $363 billion daily, which is down 2 percent from $370 billion in the previous month.
