agriculture EU aidThe European Commission has approved emergency, emergency relief to producers of fruits and vegetables that have suffered from the Russian ban on imports of food, it was clear from the traditional lunch briefing in Brussels. The budget of the measure is 125 million EUR and it will be implemented at the latest by the end of November.

The European Commission spokesman on agricultural policy Roger White stated that support will be manufacturers of various crops such as tomatoes, cabbage, carrots, cucumbers, peppers, mushrooms, apples, berries, table grapes and others who were not able to realize finished products because of the ban. Furthermore, funds will receive producers whose crop has not robbed, but is designed for the Russian market.

“The main purpose of these measures is to reduce the pressure on the European market by the loss of export markets”, commented White. He also pointed out that half of the funds aid will be directed to organizations of fruit and vegetables to distribute them to their members. Help, however, can benefit not only producers belonging to such organizations, said the spokesman of the European Commission.

“Until now such aid were distributed almost exclusively through producers. Now, however, all active producers will have access to help”, said White.

On September 15th there will be a meeting of agriculture ministers from the community which will be discussed the market situation in relation to sanctions.
