Former IG Group Treasurer of 8 years David Russell moves to Global Prime Partners

One of IG Group’s major contributors to its corporate strength, David Russell, has joined Global Prime Partners in London as Prudential Risk Manager

london

David Russell begins this week with a new position, having been appointed Prudential Risk Manager at London-based prime brokerage Global Prime Partners Ltd.

Global Prime Partners was established in 2009 and, unlike most of the institutional electronic trading sector in London, is based in the West End rather than the Square Mile.

Mr. Russell joins Global Prime Partners from Sigma Trading, where he was Head of Risk for just short of two years, a position that followed eight years at IG Group, where he was Treasurer between April 2007 and March 2015 under the leadership of CEO Tim Howkins and CFO Christopher Hill, both of whom have moved on, Mr. Howkins having retired and Mr. Hill having been appointed CEO of Hargreaves Lansdown two months ago.

IG Group’s extremely stable corporate direction can be attributed to four individuals, in our opinion. The longevity of their service and tenacity of ability kept the company in fine fettle.

Under the leadership of Mr. Howkins, who was CEO for over fifteen years, COO Arman Tahmassebi, CFO Christopher Hill and Treasurer David Russell represented the traditional and highly polished corporate executives for which British companies are recognized globally.

Mr. Hill’s appointment by Britain’s largest financial services firm Hargreaves Lansdown as CFO last year co-incided with Mr. Russell’s departure from IG Group, Mr. Hill since having been promoted to CEO, replacing Ian Gorham.

Before joining IG Group, Mr. Russell was Director of Global Trader Europe for two years between 2005 and 2007, a tenure that was preceded by one year at LCH.Clearnet, the settlement and clearing entity owned by the London Stock Exchange.

In 2003, Mr. Russell joined Refco as Head of Credit, a position that he took following eight years at GNI Ltd as Risk Manager.

Beginning his career at Coopers & Lybrand in 1991, Mr. Russell was educated at the University of Edinburgh, from where he graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce degree.
