Interactive Brokers goes for precision with editable Order Quantity fields in TWS platform

Traders using the TWS platform can view and edit order quantity in two fields – “(Outstanding) Quantity” and “Total Quantity”, which enables better control over one’s trading exposure.

Electronic trading firm Interactive Brokers Group, Inc. (NASDAQ:IBKR) has been working for a while on the latest version of its proprietary TWS platform. One of the major enhancements to the platform is the new and improved IBot, about which FinanceFeeds has reported earlier.

In the meantime, the company is working on other improvements to the TWS platform too, including making more useful data available by displaying the “Volatility Products” tab in IB Risk Navigator. Another improvement introduced in the latest version of the TWS platform is apparently aimed at securing better precision and control over one’s trading exposure thanks to editable Order Quantity fields.

Traders can view and edit order quantity in two fields. The “Total Quantity” field which always displays the orders’s original size, and the “Quantity” field, also labeled “Outstanding Quantity”, which updates as the order fills to reflect the shares remaining to fill. In addition to these editable fields, the read-only “Filled Quantity” field reflects the number of shares that have filled. As a result, Quantity + Filled Quantity = Total Quantity.

By default, traders are able to edit the”(Outstanding) Quantity” field. They can enable editing of values in the “Total Quantity” field via the Settings menu in Global Configuration. Traders may deselect “Allow editing Outstanding Quantity” if desired, but cannot disable both quantity editing fields.

With regard to TWS, Interactive Brokers has most recently been focused on beefing up the capabilities of natural language solution IBot. The latest enhancements are set to enable IBot to gradually learn one’s phrasing style.

The skill will be especially useful in uncertain situations, that is, in situations where the robot is not certain what the trader is asking about. In cases where there is more than one interpretation of one’s command, IBot will ask the trader to choose among a number of options. The selection will be remembered, and will be used to improve IBot’s comprehension.
