Westpac Institutional Bank’s CEO Lyn Cobley to retire

Curt Zuber, Group Treasurer will act as Chief Executive Westpac Institutional Bank from July 1, 2020, while an international search is carried out.

Westpac today announces that Lyn Cobley, Chief Executive of Westpac Institutional Bank, is retiring from the bank.

Ms Cobley said after more than 30 years in banking it was the right time to retire from executive life. Prior to joining Westpac, she held a variety of senior positions at the Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA) including serving as Group Treasurer from 2007 to 2013 and most recently as Executive General Manager, Retail Products & Third Party Banking. Ms Cobley was also Head of Financial Institutions at Barclays Capital in Australia, held senior roles at Citibank in Australia and Asia Pacific including Head of Securitisation and was CEO of Trading Room (a joint venture between Macquarie Bank and Fairfax).

Ms Cobley is a board member of the Australian Financial Markets Association (AFMA), the Banking & Finance Oath and the Westpac Foundation. She is also a member of Chief Executive Women.

Lyn Cobley has a Bachelor of Economics from Macquarie University, is a Senior Fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australia and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed a long and varied banking career. However, having held executive positions through a number of significant events, including the GFC and this year the COVID-19 pandemic, it is now time to step back and develop a portfolio career, including Board positions,” said Ms Cobley.

Curt Zuber, Group Treasurer will act as Chief Executive Westpac Institutional Bank from July 1, 2020, while an international search is carried out. Joanne Dawson, Chief Financial Officer, Westpac Institutional Bank & Treasury, will act as Group Treasurer during this period.
