Worldline switches on crypto payments for its 85,000 merchants

Worldline, one of the largest B2B payment providers based out of Switzerland, has combined with Bitcoin Suisse to launch crypto payments for its merchant network which has over 85,000 merchants.

For now, the merchants would not be able to use the Point of Sale and eCommerce platforms to allow their users to make payments through bitcoin and ethereum for any purchases that they make. This is one more step in the mainstream adoption of cryptos and the use of cryptos as part of a large payment network is likely to boost the prices of ETH and BTC in the short term. The service is called WL crypto payments and the merchants would be able to easily download and install the app to switch on these services and monitor the progress of their sales through this method.

Worldline Switzerland CEO Marc Schluep commented: “The launch of cryptocurrencies acceptance at the POS in Switzerland is a great proof of our ambition: Worldline wants to bring tangible value to merchants across the globe and to facilitate smooth and modern payments in all the markets we operate in. We’re happy to collaborate with Bitcoin Suisse on this forward-looking project.”

There has been an increasing push towards the mainstream use of crypto with various payment providers beginning to adopt them as a form of payment though it is a bit surprising that Worldline has chosen to activate BTC and ETH as payment methods and not stablecoins as yet. These 2 cryptos have a lot of volatility associated with them and due to this, a lot of question marks continue to remain about their usage in the mainstream world. But with that being said, users continue to buy BTC and ETH and with their increasing usage, the price and the associated volatility have also increased.

The news of this integration from Worldline has also had a positive impact on the crypto prices, especially those of BTC and ETH, and it is expected that this buoyancy would continue in the markets as more and more merchants choose to take part in crypto payments. It is also likely that this may eventually catch the eye of the regulators in due course of time and when this happens, we will have to wait and see what kind of approach they are likely to take. But considering that Switzerland has been one of those countries that have clear and forward-looking regulations surrounding crypto, it is believed that they should not have much of a problem with the Worldline crypto payments system for now.
