LINE Corporation is making artificial intelligence (AI) technologies more accessible via the introduction of a dedicated portal – Clova AI Tech Demo website. The website was officially presented at the recently held LINE Developer Day 2018.

Clova AI Tech Demo presents the AI technologies that can be useful for external developers and businesses. Let’s note that Clova AI is an AI platform created by LINE and Korea’s search engine NAVER. Artificial intelligence technologies that NAVER and LINE have been exploring for around 20 years, such as search, speech recognition and synthesis, image and video analysis, and natural language processing are provided on a single platform.

In addition, by using the Clova platform, everyone can conveniently create artificial intelligence services. Clova AI aims to create an AI ecosystem and a more convenient world together with the users and a wide range of partners.

One of the most interesting services is Clova Chatbot Builder, which enables developers to easily create Chatbots that understand the intent of a user’s question and give the right answer. The powerful dialog engine based on natural language processing technology and machine learning algorithm supports not only Japanese but also various languages such as English and Korean.

It can be applied to a range of services such as customer inquiry, ordering, and reservation. At present, Clova Chatbot Builder is used in various services like Line, Naver and LG U+.

Chatbots and virtual staff have been very actively advancing in Japanese financial services companies. In January, for instance, Shizuoka Bank Ltd (TYO:8355) announced the launch of a “virtual staff” service on its website. In its essence, the service represents a chatbot that is set to help the bank’s existing and potential customers get the information they need. The focus is on the FAQ section of the website and online banking.

In May, retail Forex broker DMM FX, part of Japanese Internet services provider DMM.com, has announced the launch of a chat service using artificial intelligence (AI). The technology behind the new service is based on IBM Watson, the company explains. The AI chat accepts enquiries via PCs and smartphones. The chatbot is capable of learning from the information obtained during the conversations. Thus, it becomes more clever and the quality of the responses is improved.
